The ILO India office has undertaken upon themselves
to promote the introduction of HIV/AIDS prevention programs within
the work place. The ILO in India office has been working on the project
for the last one and a half years during which they have worked with
7 - 8 enterprises and helped them include HIV prevention policies
within their health case policies. ILO in India office now wished
to promote the work done amongst other enterprises. For the same the
ILO decided to develop an HIV/AIDS advocacy kit - the kit were to
consist of the following:
 |
A booklet consisting of case
studies of the 7 enterprises plus a step by step guide on how
an Enterprise could implement an HIV/ AIDS prevention policy
into their existing healthcare policies. |
 |
A Multimedia CD - the CD was
to serve as a communication tool to create awareness and was
also to contain a statement by a person living with HIV and
a statement made by the Director , ILO India office. |
|
| The ILO in India office choose Icreon to design
the advocacy kit, write a script for the multimedia advocacy film
and to develop the actual multimedia film. |
 |
ILO was keen to develop an advocacy kit which would
appeal to the corporate sector at the very outset. ILO did not want
to go for a traditional folder with-a-pocket style brochure; further
on the kit was to contain 60 pages of written content which had to
be presented in a non-monotonous fashion. Therefore, it was required
that some design though go in each page of the print brochure. The
project involved getting photographs clicked of people working - symbolically
representing the population most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Further,
working for an International Organization such as the ILO meant that
approvals had to be taken at every step and that the advocacy kit
had to be liked by the International Labour office plus the Indian
office.
The multimedia film too presented several challenges; the largest
of which was that the HIV still remains a sensitive subject which
people do not like to talk about openly. It was vital that the script
and the implementation of the script was done in a manner that set
the mood of the audience and communicated effectively the need of
introduction of prevention of HIV / AIDS policies in Enterprise healthcare
policies. |

The Print Kit
Keeping the clients requirements in mind, Icreon designed a kit was
slightly larger than a notebook and was bound together by black spiro
( similar to spiral) to give it a corporate look while making it each
to handle and carry. The design also provided for a flap which was
stuck by a welcrow, two pockets were also provided for
- one for the steps manual and one for a visiting card sized CD. Icreon
decided to use a visiting card sized CD for the multimedia presentation.
A logo for this particular program was also developed, the logo symbolized
the world of work and HIV / AIDS - as seen alongside.
The multimedia film
The multimedia film posed an even larger challenge. In just around
8 minutes we had to get the attention of the audience, explain the
importance of a prevention program and also do an overview of the
work done by the ILO in the last year and a half.
The film was broken into parts |
 |
The first part was meant to
be emotive and just make the audience live a few moments of
an HIV positive persons life. |
 |
This was immediately followed
by a statement ( accompanied with photographs ) of an HIV positive
person - breaking the myths that are still associated with HIV
and also make an appeal of non-discrimination against people
living with HIV. |
 |
The third and the fourth parts
were meant to be more informative which included appeals from
the enterprises who had already worked with the ILO, this portion
also contained statements from the ILO in India Director and
summarized in brevity the steps that could be taken by Enterprises
for inclusion of HIV prevention policies in existing healthcare
policies. |
|
After evaluating all options,
Icreon recommended that the film be developed using Flash MX. The
software unlike its predecessor Flash 5 allows embedding of videos
in the flash file itself. Further it was decided that for maximum
impact we would use a voice over artist with minimum graphics in the
opening; the intro was decided to be not more than 50 seconds, music
was used only in a small part of the introduction only to add more
to the complete ambience.

Audio and video compressing techniques were used to minimize the total
file size, the complete presentation was of 24 MB with audio and video
files and was replicated on a visiting card sized CD as per the requirements
of the client.
